Established in 2007, Greensburg GreenTown is our original  “sustainable advocacy organization” which has demonstrated the power of having a full-time staff presence working in a focused way to further sustainability in a community. Our current programs include:

  1. Ongoing Advocacy and Public Relations - We help keep sustainability an important value in the community by attending meetings, writing a local newspaper column, giving interviews to the media, answering inquiries from researchers, and maintaining a dynamic website.
  2. Silo Eco-Home - GreenTown staff routinely provides tours of this sustainably built and equipped home, which houses our administrative offices and the community’s Green Visitors Center. The Silo Eco-Home also offers a bed and breakfast suite where  guests get an immersion experience in residential green living.
  3. Meadowlark Eco-Home - We are building our second eco-home in Greensburg.
  4. Great Weed Roundup - This is an original program which we aim to export to communities around the country through AfS. We sponsor a “weed roundup for bounty”; in the tradition of the old west we sponsor a contest whereby we reward the top three weed collectors with a prize package. This event teaches folks about natural ways to control weeds and the importance of using herbicides sparingly (if at all). It also serves to bring together the community to collectively meet a challenge.
